Both. In Russian/Ukranian the best translation of "checkout" is to use
term "working copy". See, in English this is two different terms, even 
similar. We don't have word "checkout" at all.

There is many terms that are very hard to translate.

I don't know what "heavyweight/lightweight boxing" means.
Can you explain, please?

In my case I found "bound branch" much simpler to translate and explain 
to novices, than "heavyweight checkout". The latter is too artificial.
While "bound branch" is simple and straightforward.
