And, since the obvious response is “teach the developers and
power-users not to do that then”, the above scenario is
indistinguishable (for the newbie) from:

  3.a. A well-meaning developer or power-user says *something* in IRC,
  and the newbie in a hurry invokes the functionality that should not
  be invoked, whether or not that was what the instructions said to
  do.

I argue (oh boy, do I ever :-) that this mistake is far too easy if
the functionality is actually there in a stable release for the newbie
to use.
