Selective deletion -- a problem of detail

Hopefully I can explain this sufficiently to get help without going into
too much detail.
A colleague and myself are using a central Bazaar branch to develop a
bit of software. My colleague uses IntelliJ IDEA all the time, I use it
sometimes. It turns out though that the project files are not
installation independent (which is really bad :-( So we have the
potential of getting into amendment ping pong. So the files have to be
removed from version control. This is straightforward to do per se.
However . . .
My colleague has just made a commit of something I want and something I
don't want. Is there any way of partitioning the total commit so as to
selectively choose?
I guess the alternative is to accept the commit, uncommit it, refactor
the commit and then push with overwrite the result. This will then
(hopefully) remove the commit of the IDE control files.
Thanks.
