Great, we converge on that.

We need one anyway, if only for push/pull/missing. It's a trivial
one, but I more and more convinced that the flexibility we are
after will come from log formatters.

You also propose 'medium' somewhere else, I called it 'mainline'
myself more than once (Yes I thought about it, no I never coded
it down).

But you may wait a bit before naming it anyway, I'm pretty sure
we are still not clear enough about how to structure the
internals if your first refactoring attempt is an indication.
