I use proportional fonts so alignment is an illusory thing!

That sounds like a good argument for having a section in the help called
"Outdated stuff you probably don't want" and putting --rich-root and any
other similar knit oriented formats in it.  Then it is clear that it is
there but should not be used unless there are special circumstances.
