To clarify, it seems you can copy binary packages to different distributions,
but not source packages. (At a minimum you need to change them during the
rename, which doesn't seem to work.)

This seems like something that should be done with a '-i' or some other flag.
But this is the best we've worked out so far.

My concern is that you leave in the recommended name "~bazaar1" when we still
need "~bazaar1~hardy1" because we can't use the LP copy feature. So I'm
guessing that your tweaks aren't complete yet. So I'll give:

And suggest that your changes are probably correct, just incomplete.
