|
| There are currently two copies on Wikimedia Commons (Commons, unlike
| many individual Wikipedias, requires that all content uploaded be Free)
| which assert that the logo is GPL:
|
| http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Bzr.jpg
| http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Bzr_icon_64.png
|
| The latter uses the justification that "Bazaar is licensed under the GNU
| GPL". I don't know that the licencing of the logo follows from that: the
| logo does not ever seem to have ended up in bzr trunk's repository. It's

| doesn't seem to be GPL.
|
| It would be good to know if the logo is in fact GPL, both so that this

| for other reasons (jelmer said on IRC yesterday that bzr-gtk is
| distributing the logo, for example).

Sorry to be slow to respond, but we are investigating the specific
licensing for the logo. In general, it would be considered a trademark
subject to "You can use it if you are talking about bzr, in an official
way (or in satire), but you can't use it to label your product which is
*not* associated with bzr, just to trade on familiarity". I don't know
if that violates the definition of "Free" given by Wikimedia Commons.

So it is more an issue of trademark rights. As I don't believe GPL (as a
software license) really applies to a trademark image.

Certainly bzr-gtk is allowed to redistribute the image, as it is
affiliated with the project.

We *do* have a 'bzr.ico' file that is part of the trunk distribution,
which includes the 16x16, 32x32 and 48x48 size versions of the logo.
