I'm not necessarily advocating per-branch aliases. Just aliases.
Per-branch has other problems, too. Like now "PWD" starts to change command
line behavior. Which is something that we have generally avoided. ('bzr log
branch' is equivalent to 'cd branch; bzr log')

I do think that having simple aliases for often used branches/repositories
would smooth out a lot. And is a bit cleaner than doing environment variables
for it.

So you could do "bzr merge bzr.dev". "bzr push bzrrepo/newbranch", etc.
