[MERGE] (0.91) selftest --benchmark verbose by default again

This fixes a bug reported by John Arbash Meinel 2 days ago. I introduced
this with the verbosity level changes merged earlier in 0.91. I believe
this fix is low risk and ought to go in 0.91.
