[BUG?] info shows "." as the path to the branch in a shared repo

Not really accurate.  All paths are shown as
1. a path relative the the cwd, if possible
2. an absolute local path, if possible
3. a url

So a dot is only shown if you're in the root of the branch you're
displaying.  If you're in a subdirectory, the absolute path will be
shown.  If you are in the repository root, the repository-relative path
will be shown.

I changed it in order to be consistent with the way all other branch
locations are shown.

I also disagree about usefulness: the branch path is now a usable path
that you can copy and paste.  To me, that makes it more, not less, useful.
