Comment:
We shouldn't use '_' as an unused variable, so that it is easier to 
support i18n in the future. A reasonable alternative is "_unused".

Otherwise this seems good. I'll leave it to Ian to decide about 0.18, 
but I'll merge it for 0.19 for sure.
