I also like 2 and three rather than introducing command-specific
options, and also the comment that we should explain more about why a
remembered location is being used.

Into the bug or spec tracker, but if it's good to discuss it here
first to try to make it concrete and specific.  It's good to put it
into one or the other of those so it's not lost.
