So there's a difference between redefining what your branches are and
checking out arbitrary subtrees of branches.

Checking out arbitrary subtrees gives me nightmares about merging--
trying to resolve conflicts in invisible files is not my idea of a good
time :-).

But what you're suggesting sounds reasonable to this uneducated bzr-svn
enthusiast.  Just don't call it partial checkouts.
