[PATCH] stripping trailing slashes from ignore patterns (#4559)

Updated the patch to fix conflicts introduced by Cheuksan Edward Wang's 
third multiple ignore parameter patch (ignore_multiple_3.patch).
Also updated the ignore help to cover trailing slashes and absolute paths.
