[MERGE] Implement --output for diff and cat, added -o as an alias.

So, it has been almost a month since you submitted this, and I've had
some time to think. I think in the short term it is reasonable. I'm not
100% on it, but I think it is enough to be approved for merging.

Can you send a bundle/diff to the list so that we can review it?
