Hah.  That could 'splain why the cvs command seemed to take so much
less time when I ran it manually; it was already close to the second
boundary.

Unrelated, but oughtn't Tailor use -R on the CVS invocations?  It
doesn't look like it would affect this particular issue, but it might
speed things up by not doing so much frobbing in the repository.
