Right, but that runs on the 'client' side.  Which means not only do we
have to get all the developers to install it and set it up (from all
the machines they may work from), and make sure that their SMTP config
is workable from wherever they might be, but also that the email is
subject to all the whims of their local system/mail config.  Then
consider that we often do (CVS, currently) checkout's on various
servers and client machines to install and work on the code from
there, which may or may not have working SMTP setups, and almost
certainly have hostnames etc. that I don't expect or want to see
commit mails coming from...


I really do want "commit" to happen in a central place, and run hooks
there   8-}
