In particular this fixes a problem where some of the files changed
during a commit aren't printed as committed - the status preview in the
commit message editor varies from the list of files shown during the
commit.

I'm +1 on the patch but not quite sure if it's sufficiently serious to
merge to 0.8; any comments?
