Yeah, I was thinking that you wouldn't really be able to use the remote
stat-cache.

Which, by the way, really should be renamed .bzr/hash-cache, since that
is how it is referenced everywhere in the code. (And when there is a
problem, it complains about an invalid entry in the *hash cache*).
