Executable flagging patch

Reading through the patch, it seems to do what I would want. :)

I would only caution that we would probably want to use hashcache if it
is available (and we need to make sure that hashcache is regenerated if
mode changes).

I haven't taken the time to apply the patch and play with it yet, though.
