I had the idea that it enforced some of the write-once constraints.
My mistake.
A better example is all the people using semi-clueless ISPs who give
them a bit of web hosting. Those people would like to publish
archives, and ftp may be the only way they have to get data up.
On the other hand, I hope that there will be much less need for people
to publish archives than was the case with arch. Most people
contribute to existing projects rather than starting new ones and for
them it should be enough to just mail patches.
