I feel that it provides a wider benefit to make the tray icon consistant
with the handful of similar applications using the notification area in
this way.  My years of habit vanished in a day, as the behaviour of
Muine has for years been an anomaly.

I am happy to say that PPC users can get back the old behaviour by
setting the gconf key /apps/muine/plugins/trayicon/old_behaviour to
true.
