<pre class="k9mail">I have an xubuntu 16.04 box which i'm attempting to use as a host for<br />an xubuntu 16.10 guest.<br /><br />On the host, i installed these packages for virtualbox:<br /> virtualbox<br /> virtualbox-guest-additions-iso<br /> virtualbox-ext-pack<br /> vde2<br /> virtualbox-qt<br /><br />On the guest, i installed the additions cd through the virtualbox gui,<br />which created a directory<br />/media/<<USERNAME>>/VBOXADDITIONS_5.0.24_108355 and in that directory,<br />i ran<br /> sudo ./<a href="http://VBoxLinuxAdditions.run">VBoxLinuxAdditions.run</a><br />but not very successfully.<br /><br />It errors out looking for the file<br /> /lib/modules/4.8.0-22-generic/build/include/linux/version.h<br /><br />So i've been trying to get that file installed.<br /><br />Following suggestions on the net, i've added these packages to the<br />guest (aside from emacs, which i sort of needed to install no matter<br />what):<br /> xserver-xorg<br /> xserver-xorg-core<br /> build-essential<br /><br />I believe that's the complete list, but it's possible that i installed<br />some other package in order to get the version.h header listed above.<br /><br />The net suggested doing<br /> sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)<br />but when i try that, the system says that<br />linux-headers-4.8.0-22-generic is already the newest version.<br /><br />So i went to the <a href="http://packages.ubuntu.com">packages.ubuntu.com</a> site to see if i could find the<br />build/include/linux/version.h file.<br /><br />That didn't seem to be part of any package for 16.10.<br /><br />For reference, it looks like this issue comes up from time to time,<br />and usually some solution emerges, but this latest time<br />(October/November 2016), the issue has come up, but i haven't found<br />any solution yet.<br /><br />Also note that i have the directory of the file that it is looking<br />for, and similar sounding files, like vermagic.h, but not that exact<br />file.<br /><br />Bringing it up to this list because it seems like a pure xubuntu<br />matter (host and guest both xubuntu, and package for virtualbox also<br />coming from the usual ubuntu repository).<br /><br />(And the reason i want to install the additions is so i can share a<br />folder between guest and host.)<br /><br />TIA for any clues on how to deal with it!<br /><br />dan<br /></pre></blockquote></div><br>
