Thx to all those whp replied to my posts. 

I have actually been doing the obvious: Settings --> Mouse and Touchpad --> Reset to Defaults. 
I gave up, because it simply hasn't worked.

I have also just recently looked into the suggestion (Talmoor A and V Forberger), i.e
Change the focus setting of the Windows tab from "Focus follows mouse" to "Click to focus". Unfortunately the Focus setting right now of my system is already "Click to focus".
