There is a useful tool call "boot-repair" included in
Xubuntu distribution. I'v used it to restore boot after
installin windows 7. It detected both OS and automatically
generates the new boot (even wen it is runned from a live
distribution). It would show you wich OS it detects before
applying the changes, in the expert mode.
Anyway you can also do it manually, by editing Grub
configuration file. Then running Grub.
If you have the file of the running boot, it should be easy
deleting just the remaining lines.
BUT, I did not find it installed on Xubuntu 12.04. So, how / where
to get Boot-Repair?
This looks just what I've been looking for. I've lost the ability to
(dual) boot Win-7 on my desktop PC. I also have a netbook which had
Win-7 on it. I shrunk the partition and copied it to new partitions
created on an SSD. Replaced the HD with the SSD. Lost the ability to
boot Win. Do have Xubuntu running from a new partition. SO, I'll try
this.

Concern: the extended discussion of creating bootable thumb drives
on this discussion list. The alternative approaches suggested at the
above web site might save some pain and suffering with thumb drives
that won't boot.
