Hi all,

I am setting up a small home server and desktop with Xubuntu 14.10 desktop version. I have a ath9k based wireless card for internet access. Unfortunately I can not have wired network from my DSL router to the server. Therefore I plan to run the single hardware as both simultanously: a wlan-client to have internet access via the DSL router and an access point with WPA2 to connect my other gadgets as well as to provide a guest WLAN with an virtual interface.

I am stuck between the different approaches, possibilities and versions at the web. Can anyone provide me a step by step example for 14.10?

More specific questions are:
- Is the combination of wpa-supplicant, hostapd and dnsmasq the right way to go?
-Does this bug apply to Xubuntu 14.10 too ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpa/+bug/1289047 )? If yes, how to get the old version installed?
- What is the correct way to deactivate the network-manager permanently?
- How to add an new interface (iw dev phy0 add myAP type __ap) permanently, so that it survives a reboot?

Best wishes
Jürgen
