Thank you for your help. That computer went dead on me, some thing with video, I'm using my Dell GX280 mini tower with 3 gb ram and Dell Radeon x1300 dvi pci-e video card. I've got Xubuntu 14.04 running great. With standard video driver Google Chrome runs great. The command-line switch I suggest is for when you are using Catalyst/fglrx. In my case, without Catalyst/fglrx, i.e. when using the open Radeon driver, I don't need the special command-line switch, and Chrome runs fine.
