I just tried 14.04 on my laptop with Optimus graphics (GeForce 650).
My biggest concern in regards to upgrading my 12.04 was bumblebee or
nvidia-prime, so I tried on some spare partition
I tried to follow some posts, bottom line, it does not work (right)!
1) installing the nvidia-331 drivers from xorg-edges repository gets
the optimus card to work with optirun but primusrun fails
2) I cannot run glxspheres64 w/o optirun! (broken GLX error)
3) glxspheres us about 25% slower than on my 12.04 with 3.5 kernel

I think the release of 14.04 (or at least the choice of kernel) was
highly premature if such common hardware is so poorly supported! so
far at every upgrade I had to fight with bumblebee to get it work
and I would have hoped support actually improves. Oh, BTW,
supporting the noveau driver is not sufficient for any user. While I
like open software, I am not willing to compromise on performance
just because the nvidia drivers are proprietary.
Why doesn't this piece get more attention?

What would help would be that the ubuntu or Xubuntu team at least
provide a website with clear and comprehensive instructions on how
to make the optimus card work AND do clearly describe the
differences between bumblebee and nvidia-prime. I don't need
seamless support, I am happy using optirun or primusrun but not even
this works out of the box.
