<div dir="ltr"><div><div><div>I have similar problems with one of my ancient laptops with 32 bit 12.04 on it.  I just turn it off physically.  I've not had problems on the Dell Latitude D620 which has 12.04 64 bit (Alternative) on it, which I'm using to send this message.<br>

Latest LTS release: 12.04, Precise Pangolin (64bit Desktop)<br><br>I encounter a problem whenever I shutdown or restart;  the screen goes black,  my computer doesn't 
power off. The fans still run and the screen is still on, etc. I have to
 hold down the power button in order to completly shut down.<br><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif">I tried to fix it taking the help from below URL but was of no use. It did not work.<br>
