Personally I edit and change the default panels - I just have one on the bottom.<br>

<br>I think I moved the default bottom panel to the side and top panel to the bottom, and then set auto-hide on both. I like that it's so easily to customize.<br><br>Unless you're trying to deploy a specific configuration to many machines, it shouldn't be a big deal to spend a few minutes customizing. Or (as Elfy mentioned), you can hopefully avoid the whole issue by carrying forward an old config.<br>
