I also use Xubuntu, recently on my new laptop. I don't like abiword so I

did install Libre Office, but not all of it. Via synaptic I installed LO
<br/>
writer only. Of course you do get a few extra files included
<br/>
automatically so that it will run, but I have not included other parts
<br/>
of LO such as calc, draw, base or impress. If you do not need them all
<br/>
there is no need to install the whole suite.
