Abiword doesn't have as good import filters (e.g. msoffice) as Libreoffice and lacks many features though is very lightweight. Libreoffice is a much more complex program, with some parts even using java, but it is probably the best free office suite around. I find both are a little slow but i think abiword is a little more lightweight which suits me. Both apps are going through a refining stage i think at present.
