Based on the symptoms (no titlebar, windows appear in the center of the screen instead of their normal location, window manager settings don't work), I'd say your problem is that xfwm4 is not running. To test this, try running "pgrep xfwm4" in a terminal window. If it prints a number, then xfwm4 is running (and my theory is wrong). If it prints nothing, try running "xfwm4 &" in the terminal window. If that makes things better, go to Settings>Session and Startup, then click on the "Save Session" button in the Session tab. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (1) pgrep xfwm4 does not return anything. (2) xfwm4 & restores the titlebar and window manager settings! (3) I clicked on "save session" in settings>sessions & startup, reboot the machine, and everything is back to normal! THANKS! One thing still bugs me: After I restored my settings, once again I put an xdaliclock at the upper left hand corner of the screen. I then rebooted the mmachine, and wa la, the xdaliclock now shows up in the middle of the screen! The rest of x-window functions properly. Is this a quirk of xdaliclock or is there something more serious going on? The one thing I have done in recent weeks that is remotely related to all these is that I went to settings>startup and added xdaliclock as one of the startup appications (every so often the xdaliclock would disappeared after a number of reboot, even though I always have "saved session" on, and I was tired of restarting xdaliclock). After the clock started showing up in the middle of the screen, I went back and removed this startup application, and soon after x-window crashed. Mystery continues... Thanks again!</body></html>
