I have a Compaq Presario 512MB RMAN, 800MHz with 40GB hard drive. I have tried lots of distros and finally settled upon Xubuntu 8.0.4 (partitioned the disk and installed Xubuntu on 10GB..the other 30GB has Windoze XP on it). I absolutely love Xubuntu and would like to use it as long as I can.

I mostly use this computer for Web browsing and playing gnometrics. When I am using Firefox (3.0.5 - latest patch), it slows down the system..sometimes to a point where gnometrics gets paused auotmatically..I can see memory maxing out in "top". Are there any suggestions to improve performance by tweaking Firefox? I tried SeaMonkey etc. but not much difference. I don't really want to use a really low level browser like Dillo for obvious reasons.

Any comments/pointers will be much appreciated.

--
Regards,
Ravi

PS: My other laptop has Ubuntu 8.0.4 running and I love that one too.

It’s the same Hotmail®. If by “same” you mean up to 70% faster. Get your account now.
