You can get around it by choosing 'File System', then 'media' - where you will see the list of removable media - but I guess that is not really good if you are trying to set this up for a basic user?

I have noticed that when any filechooser dialog appears (such as Firefox -
File - > Save As), the "Places" menu does not contain any removable media. I
attempted to file this as a bug report, but wasn't quite sure where it
