I don't entirely understand what you are asking but Edgy is older than Feisty and the only reason you would want to upgrade to Feisty is that Edgy will eventually stop getting security updates so as long as you either finish up your projects before then or don't have the computers on a network connection you should be fine using older versions of Xubuntu. Upgrade to feisty (may be i am wrong remember my microsotf background ) change the fact than i started to use some libraries that are upgrade in feisty and maybe dont work in the same way in edgy.
