Damn Small Linux is probably going to be the best/easiest solution to running a machine like that with X in my opinion, though if you have alot of time on your hands I know debian and FreeBSD will both install on something with such low requirements and you can customize either OS as you go.

thanks for replies so far! Frank do you mean using Linux without the GUI? I ain't very familiar with the command line only stuff but, since i have time i'll get to know it!<br>I'll let you know about the results, i also have an old Toshiba laptop (also 486 and 32mb of ram) that needs a new OS hehe lots of work ahead
