Sounds like bad hardware or unsupported hardware. Try booting the livecd and run Memtest86+ to see if its possible that you have a bad RAM module, otherwise you might just have something that the kernel is choking on and then i would say hit F2 or ctrl+alt+F2 during boot to see the kernel output instead of the usplash and we can work from there.

I installed Xu on my current pc but now i want to put that HD on my brother's pc. Xu doesnt star, it gives me I/O Buffer errors (i think that's what it says) when i try to run the Live CD and just freezes during the initial loading.
