I don't personally know anything of a new naming scheme for feisty, I have always been under the impression that sda means SATA or SCSI (and as it appears to be usb thumb drive also) .... I really don't think it would fry your drive, but better to stay on the side of caution. Do you remember who told you it was a naming scheme in the irc channels? Depending on who said it, it might very well be a completely valid statement (certain people who are on irc seem to know these things because they are more closely involved with the development cycle than others.
