My guess is that you have old and new indicators running.

See the release notes about a new indicator for the panel:

 > A new “StatusTray” panel plugin, consolidating the StatusNotifier and 
System plugins into a single powerful and consistent plugin.

Multiple panel plugins can mean multiple icons for the services that 
connect to those plugins.
