Clearly there are some issues with 16.04.

It's unclear to simple users like me why the designers or developers
feel it necessary constantly to fix things that aren't broken.

a) the installer interface: Synaptic works perfectly and has never
failed me. Software Centre is a joke: one package at a time, half the
stuff is missing, and it's as slow as trying to waltz in mud. I can't
even begin to imagine what ghastliness awaits in Gnome Software.

b) the repos: the replacement of perfectly-working and valuable software
by part-broken packages with poor interface design has been going on
unchecked for far too long. It started way back with kpdf and kdvi being
replaced by okular, which is messy, usurps valuable screen space with a
completely useless sidebar, and still doesn't print accurately; it
continues with each successive release.
\end{rant}

Sorry about that: nothing personal, but someone at the management level
in the Ubuntu organisation really needs to take a firm line with the
novelty-hunters. It's fun doing neat experimental stuff, and it's fun
designing interfaces for other designers to use, but it's not the way to
get the system adopted by a broader audience.
