[xubuntu-users] Why no default mount?

Guys,

I have used various operating systems. Windows in most all flavors, Mandrake
back in the day, Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Mint Cinnamon, iOS, Mac, etc.

Still, one thing about Linux that sorta makes me go ... "Hmmm?"

That is: If I want Xubuntu or Mint or ... whatever others ... to auto mount
all disk drives on boot in my machine, I have to go into some GUI or fiddle
with the fstab file to have that happen.

Am I just a total noob or is there some other reason(s), other than security
I guess, for Linux to do things that way?

See, I have my Xubuntu machine set up as a little media server using
TVmobili. So, for me, I need my drives to auto mount on boot so that the
TVmobili service can have access to the media on each disk drive.

Why no auto mount?

And why no auto detect of graphics hardware to the point that Linux goes ...
"OK .. buddy has an nVidia blah blah card ... sooo, let's put that driver as
default.

I love Linux and I think if Linux could make a few tiny steps like that ...
well, man, Linux might get MAJOR traction in this world.

Sorry ... being philosophical tonight ... forgive me. :D
