[xubuntu-users] magic trackpad fails to connect in 14.04.02

I've been using the magic trackpad on my dell desktop (quad core2) in xubuntu since 64 bit 12.04.01.  Today I did a clean install of  64 bit 14.04.02, and the magic trackpad stops working:

  1) When I first setup the trackpad using blueman, it asks me to enter codes (I use 0000), pick the type of device (input device), and then it says "Device added and connected successfuly".  But the trackpad does not work --- the mouse cursor does not move, and clicking on the pad does not trigger anything in xubuntu

  2)  I run the blueman assistant again; it does not ask for a passcode and simply asks me to pick input device; this time it says "Device added successfuly, but failed to connect"

  3)  I deleted this device from blueman's list and tried again (multiple times) and got the same reason.  I also removed the batteries from the trackpad, waited 10 seconds and tried again; no dice.

  4) Even though the trackpad is not working, the blue and red icons in blueman are blinking constantly.  Also, the upload/download numbers as indicated at the bottom of blueman has been steadily increasing without any input from me/touchpad (starting from about 92KB download, gradually increasing to 124kB after 5 min)

Here is the weird part:  I took the bluetooth received from my desktop and put it in my laptop (already installed with 64bit xubuntu 14.04.01 and is up-to-date), did the blueman setup routine, and the trackpad works!  I did
      dmesg | grep -n magic
on my desktop and on my laptop and got different output; see below.

I'm baffled.   Your help and advice are most appreciative.   THANKS!
