This is absolutely not true. 'sudo apt-get autoremove' will NOT remove old
kernels.
Here's a page referring to why to script does NOT remove old kernels:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/563483/why-doesnt-apt-get-autoremove-remove-my-old-kernels
This command will list the number of kernels you have installed:
dpkg -l | grep linux-image-
I have 20 currently installed, and running autoremove has no effect on that
number.
There is no consensus within Xubuntu or larger Ubuntu communities about the
best way to handle this.
Ubuntu-Tweak provides a GUI for removing old kernels, which is a good
approach for non-technical users.
Google searches will provide many attempts at scripts to automate this
process, but be careful, I have deleted all kernels twice by using such
scripts.
