PS:
Btw. regarding environmental protection I recommend to use rewriteable
DVDs or CDs or USB sticks, it's not a question how much a media is.
It also doesn't harm to use computers as long as possible:

If software requires faster hardware, e.g. as the GNOME desktop
environment does, then don't use it, instead use e.g. Xfce4. "GVFS" that
can't be used with green drives btw. is from GNOME and is just an
optional dependency, not a hard dependency for Thunar.
As you can see the package "recommends" GVFS and doesn't "depends" on
it.
