Most of the LightDM documentation on the web, and even on the official
Ubuntu site is just flat WRONG. This is especially true of blogs and
forums where people have 'guessed' at various fixes to older versions.
This is because LightDM documentation is not maintained in any timely way,
and the fact that while the LightDM package has been around for at least
two major Ubuntu releases, it has gone through multiple revisions which
reclocated the various configuration files and/or changed the format and
syntax.

The most recent change 'to get ready for Wayland' moved the files AGAIN,
so you can't really trust *anything* currently published.

If you have 'upgraded' from older distros or revisions, you will have
multiple stale LightDM files scattered throughtout the filesystem, and a
maze of symlinks pointing to them. It's a complete mess.

This package is an abomination, not ready for prime time, and has no
business in a production system or any machine other than a development
one.
