i'm trying to automatically login a user when the system boots up, and i
found the document at [1]. on my system there is no
/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf but there is a lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf and a
lightdm-gtk-greeter-ubuntu.conf. i tried making a blank
/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and adding the [SeatDefaults] section as
described in the document, and this works as far as automatically
logging in the user defined by autologin-user.
However, if i want to switch users, when i logout then i just get a
blank black screen and there's no user selection dialog box. i've also
tried renaming the lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf to lightdm.conf and again
adding the [SeatDefaults] section to the bottom. again it will
automatically login the user but for some reason disables the user
selection if i logout....
i found some other articles which seem outdated and overly complicated
and require compiling scripts and such, which i do not think is
necessary. it seems there should be a straight-forward way to enable
this in lightdm.conf or in some other config file...
