Hi James,
you either install the missing dependencies with apt-get or synaptic and 
run hp-setup again or you go to this page
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html
and follow the instrucktions. Step 7 is where the missing dependencies 
are resolved.
