No. I've been using 12.04 since it was first released, with updates as they
come along.

Fat32. I don't understand "Do you have that file system installed." I do note
that I have one partition on a HD that is formatted NTFS and I can access it's
contents.
I note that I can boot from a Knoppix CD and mount and see contents of thumb
drives while running Knoppix.
Remember: this problem applies to both thumb drives and my optical drive.
