Incorrect, since sending the subject "unsubscribe" to the right address
works too.

each header from this mailing list does include this information

IOW the OP sent it to xubuntu-users at lists.ubuntu.com , but
it has to be send  to xubuntu-users-request at lists.ubuntu.com .
